How I Studied When I Didn't Feel Like Studying (I was crying inside)
Yes, there are days when studying feels impossible, not because I don't want to study but because my mind feels heavy. I guess that's what people mean by Brain Fog.
On other days I can just take a break from studying, but when exam is near and you need to complete the syllabus its crucial to study otherwise I have to compromise on marks.
This is exactly how I felt on those days, and if you are feeling the same, this is for you.
Feeling Stuck
I sit at my study table with all my notes and books, but I can't study, can't even get started on a topic. Just thinking about how much I had to study made me feel more stuck.
Ironically, I knew that if I started at that exact moment, I could still finish the syllabus on time. But knowing that didn’t make starting any easier.
Delaying Study
I kept thinking "If I don't study now, it will only get worse." If only it was that easy and I magically started studying with full focus. That’s when I realized something important - waiting for motivation wasn’t helping.
Here is How I Tackled It
1. I stopped relying on motivation
The first thing I did was stop overthinking and forget about motivation. I told myself - I don't have to study everything at once, just this one topic for now.
That changed everything
I finished one topic, then my motivation went up, I jumped to the next topic and kept going. I noticed as I began finishing my syllabus chapter by chapter. I felt like I can do this and that feeling only comes when you actually start doing it.
2. No Hard Feelings
The truth is your exam is bound to happen and it doesn't care how you feel and what situation you are going through right now. It demands input i.e. studying and knowing everything not just from you from everyone equally. So, if you want good grades you can't afford to waste any more time thinking about studying , you need to actually start studying.
3. God will help (philosophically)
Think about it, what God wants you to do, even if you don't believe in God, what better things you have to do except studying right now, as your exam is at your door knocking. The philosophy in every religion is to do something good, and the best thing you can do at this time is to study by which you are actually investing in a good future for your own good. This is how I changed my thought process and let go of every other useless time wasting thought. This helped me focus on studying only and I was able to do good on my exams (actually).
Just focus on your Purpose
Conclusion
Some days, studying is about holding yourself together and remember what your purpose is. Because if you don't study now exam will end anyways and you will regret later saying
"I should have studied when I had the time instead of wasting my time on stupid things I don't even remember now"
and if today is one of those days, I feel you as I have been through the same . You just have to start studying anyhow, forget your feelings and keep going. Trust me you'll do better than what you think.
