Diptyx Dual-Screen Foldable eReader - Is This The Future Of eReaders?
What if your Ereader could open like a real book. The DiptyX dual screen Ereader is turning that idea into reality. It uses two E-ink screen and opens like an actual book. An Ereader which is foldable can be a trend in 2026. If implemented right it could be very practical, it will give a book like reading experience while being compact when folded so that you can carry it in your pocket comfortably. That's the whole point of foldable devices, big screens in your pocket.
The DiptyX ereader is still a crowdfunding project. It runs on a microcontroller ESP32-S3-N16R8, with two 5.84" e-ink displays that folds like a book, has USB c for charging and two 1500 mAh battery, the display resolution is (648x480), 137 ppi. Compared to 300 ppi device, it's a bit dull, but that's fine as this is an early stage version, and also not too bad for text reading.

Why dual screen Ereaders are a good idea?
Dual panel means you can see two pages at once and when closed it becomes very portable, smaller than your smartphone.
The DiptyX has open firmware and DRM free system that means you can store thousands of books. You can upload your own files such as EPUB via USB with a computer.

Since its open source, those who are into DIY and are familiar with programming can tweak fonts, margins and firmware.
As mentioned earlier, foldable ereader is a cool idea, but this is still a pre launch project, Global availability, support and the final product may be different.
Final Thoughts
The DiptyX e-reader isn't ready to replace your Kindle yet, but it could be the future of e-readers - portable, foldable and truly open.
To be a proper foldable e-reader and attract sales it needs a proper software and processor, this version runs on a microcontroller, so it can only perform tasks like viewing a file like pdf and epub, also Wi-Fi or Bluetooth may not be available.
