According to leaks, the new Palma 3 will feature a Color display and 5G and 4G cellular support. Almost like a smartphone. The device will come in two variants one with Color e-ink other one with grayscale e-ink display. Onyx has not officially confirmed any date for launch but we can expect it to be launched in late 2025 or early 2026.
Display Upgrades
The main highlighted upgrade over the Palma 2 appears to be the Color e-ink display. While the Palma 2 had grayscale screen, this one is likely to have a Kaleido 3 panel, which will make it a compact and portable comic/manga reading machine. The screen size has not been revealed yet, but it will be somewhere around 6"-6.5"
Connectivity Upgrades
Another rumored upgrade is 5G and 4G LTE addition, which will give users access to libraries and books without Wi-Fi like a smartphone. Users will also be able to make calls via SIM card.
Software Upgrades
The Boox Palma 2 had Android 13, so we can expect the new models with Android 14 and full Google Play store support.
The Palma series by Boox has always been loved by readers who wanted the portability of a phone in an e-ink screen and Google Apps. With the Palma 3 it is going to be even better for users. If Boox gets the pricing right, this could sell very good as people are really opting for eye friendly reading devices or as a secondary phone.
