Instapaper Replaces Pocket - Read It Later Continues On Kobo eReaders
Kobo e-readers have officially switched to using Instapaper following Mozilla’s shutdown of Pocket. This change arrived as a free firmware update rolled out in August 2025 to all supported Kobo readers.
Mozilla shut down pocket in July 2025, with all user data available for export until the October 8, 2025 deletion deadline. This left Kobo users in need of a replacement service.
What’s New for Kobo Users
The Instapaper integration provides the previous Pocket experience in which users can save articles to Instapaper and access them offline on their Kobo devices. Unlike some services, this integration doesn’t require purchasing Instapaper Premium it's fully available for free.
At present, the integration lacks support for handwriting annotations, a feature supported by Kobo devices with a stylus (like the Kobo Elipsa 2E).
