How do you fix a Frozen Kindle?
1. Try a Soft Reset (simple restart)
This is the easiest and safest fix to restart a frozen kindle
- Press and hold the power button for at least 40 second
- Keep pressing it even if the screen doesn't change
- after 40 seconds release the button
- Now wait and you should see the Kindle logo.
Tip: If the Kindle doesn't restart this way, your Kindle battery might be completely dead. Charge the device for 30 minutes to 1 hour and try the steps again.
2. Use Kindle Setting Menu (if responsive but freezes sometimes)
If your Kindle is slow and sometimes freeze but still responds to touch after some minutes, try these steps to get rid of the lag -
- Go to Settings
- Tap the Menu (three dots) in the top right corner
- Select restart
This will safely restart the device. It should feel a little faster than before.
3. Free up storage
Do not fill your Kindle storage up 100%, instead leave some free space. When my Kindle runs out of storage it feels more laggy. Just delete the unnecessary stuff, this can help too.
4. Still not working? Try a factory reset (Last Option)
Warning : This will erase everything from your Kindle including books, notes settings etc.
If your Kindle still lags and stutters even after a restart, follow these steps to factory reset your Kindle -
- On the HOMESCREEN swipe down from the top to open the Menu
- Tap the (three dots) or (device option)
- Open settings
- Choose [restart device] or [factory reset] depending on your model.
- Then press YES to confirm, and wait for it to reboot itself.

When to contact Amazon Support
If your Kindle is completely unresponsive and it doesn't even charge and none of the methods above work then you can visit Amazon Device support page, chat or call customer support. If your Kindle is under warranty, you might get a replacement.
